Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) isn't just a condition; it's a unique perspective, a different way of experiencing the world that enriches the tapestry of human diversity.
Autism isn't a singular entity; it's a spectrum, a vast array of strengths, challenges, and individual experiences. Autism often gets portrayed as a list of challenges - social struggles, repetitive behaviors, sensory sensitivities. While these can be real experiences, it paints an incomplete picture. Many autistic individuals possess unique strengths that often go unnoticed.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder called a "spectrum" disorder because it manifests differently in each individual, ranging from mild to severe. It's important to note that autism is not a disease or a result of bad parenting; it's a neurological difference that is present from early childhood and persists throughout a person's lifetime. While the exact causes of autism are still being researched, it's believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Generally autism appears during the first 3 years of life and alters the normal physiological condition of an individual. There is an alarming increase of ASD and it is estimated that more than 60 lakh children are affected by this abnormal condition of the brain. One out of 500 infants has some symptom of autism and almost 20,000 new cases of ASD are getting registered every year. Generally, it is more common in boys than in girls i.e. 3 to 4 times higher in male than female.
